About the project
You need something special to stand out in Melbourne’s crowded dining scene and 8Bit with its creative burgers and retro-video game branding is certainly achieving this! The newest 8Bit location is now open in the new food hub at 360 Collins Street, and the eye catching, bright and fun fit-out took full advantage of the Austratus difference!
The Austratus Difference
We were proud to help Architects EAT realise their vision for the new 8Bit venue – an interactive space with pockets of intrigue and surprise with varying heights and levels that is both inviting and unique.
Architects EAT is a Melbourne-based, award-winning architecture and interior design practice, known for delivering attention-grabbing, sensory and tactile experiences.
We worked closely with both the architect and builder to brightly coat the Austratus tracking system and install our timber profiles for a suspended ceiling feature ‘cloud’. The green and yellow colouring was designed to mimic a video game pixel look – in keeping with the 8Bit brand.
As always, the Austratus system was supplied as a complete package including the prefinished timber profiles, joiner clips and steel suspended ceiling rails.
Our clients told us that the best bit about using Austratus was the supply of the entire package – saving their clients money in both labour and materials and allowing them to create an installation that’s unlike anything else in Melbourne restaurants.
The Austratus Fin Profile is your choice for achieving extra depth and dimension. The classic square shape adds dynamic shadows to your space and allows your creative flair to truly stand out. Use curved or straight, you can create interest any way you choose. Choose to prefnish your Hemlock timber to any shade to truly create an installation that fits your vision. And of course, natural timber is a high performer when it comes to acoustic absorption – perfect for busy shared eating spaces.
Testimonial from Designer:
"Achieving something original while being both cost effective and appealing is always a great challenge! The Austratus system was cost effective and easy to use, and working with the team was fantastic. Hamish in particular was great – dealing with Austratus was actually the smoothest part of the project. They were efficient, great communication and have a quality product. Fantastic!"
Testimonial from Builder:
"I think this is a great system. The benefits were all there – it was the whole package so we only needed to install one thing, the tracks were simple and reliable, and it was engineer approved, so no need to get feedback from engineers. We already have some ideas for using this system in the future that we will be happily talking to Austratus about."
